The club’s Hilly 21 open time trial planned for Sunday, 21 March 2021 has been postponed. We are hoping to run the event later in the season.
Hi all, the Cleveland wheelers needs you! It’s that time of year again when we require members to commit to helping with a club event or events. I’m sure you can all appreciate that the club would be unable to function or produce high quality events without the help of its members.
Obviously things are a little different this year as we are still in the grip of pandemic restrictions, so if I could ask you all to be flexible where possible. We really don’t know if the Hilly 21 scheduled for the 21st of March will go ahead, or the mountain tt on 25th April? So if members selecting to marshal these events could be flexible for if the event is rescheduled? Obviously if the dates change then we can’t hold you to the Marshall duty. We will just have to see how the year unfolds.
Also i have removed the option for selecting to marshal for the league 2000. Mainly as most people who select to marshal the L2k are already involved so it just means I’m generating an unnecessary extra list.
Anyhow please see the google survey below where you can tick (NOT) for event dates that you are unavailable. Members exempt from marshalling are over 70s, under 18s, honorary members and those who already carry out club duties including L2k. Also please note that the open event marshalling is not to be confused with evening series marshalling which you committ to seperetly on entering the evening series. Please can you all return your responces by 28th of February. Thanks for your help with this.
Cheers, Dave k

Hello everyone,
Firstly, I would like to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year! I hope that everyone is safe and well!
I am contacting you regarding our Youth Sessions for 2021, this includes Youth Training, League 2000 and any other events that we have planned for the year.
We have a full calendar of events planned throughout the year, which we had planned to start on Monday 1st February 2021 and culminate on Monday 13th December 2021. The League 2000 is also planned for this year too from April.
However, as we are still current living through a global pandemic and due to the state of play at the moment in the UK, ALL ACTIVITY at Middlesbrough Sports Village is currently suspended.
Therefore, we are not able to restart our sessions this Monday 1st February 2021.
I am in contact weekly with members from British Cycling (Cycling Government Body) and Everyone Active (Operator at MSV) who are both pending Government announcements and guidance as well. As soon as I receive the good news that we can safely return and the parameters that surround it, I will let you all know ASAP.
If anyone has anything that they would like to discuss further, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thanks & regards,
Josef George

For those who haven’t seen this elsewhere.

Hi all…tomorrow, Saturday 12 December, myself and a great team around me will attempt the C2C2C challenge ride from Saltburn to Morecambe then back again, raising money for Bowel Cancer UK.
Before things get too ‘busy’ tomorrow, I would just like to say a few thankyou’s…. .
Firstly to the amazing team and club members who despite the conditions have selflessly said they would like to help? They include Toby Tanfield, Aaron Preston, John Kelly (Jnr), Lee O’Leary, Dan Waring, Marcus Smith, Ryan Murray, Ian Fryett, Peter Gunn, Eoin Carroll and Hilton Armstrong. Unfortunately, due to COVID regulations I had to limit it to two groups, but would also like to thank Martin Kendrew and Tom Pugh for putting themselves forward in case of anyone dropping out.
I would also like to thank Dave Kirton and Shaun O’Shea. Due to injury niggles they were unable to ride however instantly said they would like help as a mechanical back up vehicle for the day.
Thanks to all who offered to bake cakes, loan lights etc…I think we are all OK but your generosity and willingness to help is truly appreciated!
After realising my wheels were just about shot, thanks to Harry Tanfield for loaning me a pair of his HUNT wheels, last minute for the ride.
Thanks also to all who have sponsored – so far, £10,300 has been raised for Bowel Cancer UK, which is absolutely incredible.
With everyone pulling together like this it makes me proud to be a member of the Cleveland Wheelers and part of such a great club!
We had a practice ride last weekend, riding to the British Cycling protocol so hopefully everything will run smoothly.
Anyone who would still like to sponsor, just go to ‘Just Giving Andrew Curson’. Everyone who sponsors will automatically be entered into a raffle with prizes that include an INEOS jersey, signed by Luke Rowe. A signed AG2R Mondiale bidon, cap and Vuelta race number by local cycling legend Harry Tanfield. A Beefeater Bend cycling jersey (which can be signed or unsigned
), plus many more prizes – see below. Finally, we will be arriving back into Saltburn approximately 19:30-20:00 on Saturday evening, so if you’re down that way it would be good to see some smiling faces to welcome us back home after such a long day (obvisouly observing social distancing guidelines).
Thanks again everyone and stay safe, Andy.
