The club’s Freewheeling Competition will take place on Sunday, 5 November 2017 at 11:00 am. As always it will be on Stone Stoup Hill on the road out of Ingleby Greenhow towards Battersby.

As the name suggests it’s a test to see how far the rider can travel from the crest of the hill without resorting to pedalling. To prevent cheating (hey – this event is keenly contested) the cranks are usually immobilised by strapping the left crank to the chainstay.

The rider is also expected to divest himself/herself and the bike of any weighty objects such as water bottles and saddlebags. And no you can’t put lead shot down the seat tube.
