Freewheeling

The club’s Freewheeling Competition usually takes place in the Autumn. Check the Ride Programme for the date and time. It is held on Stone Stoup Hill on the road out of Ingleby Greenhow towards Battersby.

As the name suggests it’s a test to see how far the rider can travel from the crest of the hill without resorting to pedalling. To prevent cheating (hey – this event is keenly contested) the cranks are usually immobilised by strapping the left crank to the chainstay.

The rider is also expected to divest himself/herself and the bike of any weighty objects such as water bottles and saddlebags. And no, you can’t put lead shot down the seat tube.

If you want to take part then just turn up, there’s no entry fee.
