Bring & Buy Sale, Friday 31st October, 7pm

The Wheelers’ annual bring and buy sale will be held on Friday 31st October at the usual venue of Stokesley Town Hall.

Come along and browse for useful bits of kit and clothing that you never even knew you wanted, and then enjoy a cup of tea and some delicious cake downstairs. Or just come for the cake…

It’s always a great occasion, a chance to chat and meet fellow members (and non-members), buy spare cleats, wheels, stems, bikes or sunglasses (for when summer returns) – or indeed to sell such items that you no longer require. And then to eat cake.

Entry is 50p on the door and if you have things to sell then it’s 50p for a table to sell as much stuff as you can cram on to it.

As always The Wheelers will be looking for volunteers to help run things on the night and of course for people to make and donate cakes! If you can help out any time between 6pm and 9pm (we know it’s Halloween and flexible working hours can be arranged) please get in touch with Steve Tilly, Dave Kirton or any of the committee members.

If you want to donate cakes, just drop them off at the town hall any time after 6pm.

All helpers, sellers, buyers and cake donors will be greatly appreciated.

Club Runs

Hi Wheelers. Over the past month we have been fine tuning the club runs with the introduction of the easy paced group which has really taken off, plus various club run regulars volunteering to lead groups organised via the Cleveland Wheelers ride leaders face book page. It all seems to be running well, however the last little tweak for now is we are going to separate the start times of the steady and fast groups to avoid confusion and the amount of numbers gathering in the car park. This will encourage riders to decide which group they are going to ride with before they leave home and assist the ride leaders organising their group. This worked well a couple of winters ago. So for the winter period the start times will be as below and we will see how it goes. All routes to be made up on the day by ride leaders as weather becomes a big factor, unless we decide to put out a special route . additional rides can be organised via Cleveland Wheelers members face book page.

Saturday. 10.30. Easy paced group 14-15mph. 25-35 miles. (we have made it 10.30 start to allow some members to get over from the park run)

Sunday. 09.30. Easy paced group 14-15mph. 25-35 miles.

09.45. Fast group 18-19mph.

10.00. regular steady group 16-17mph

The above rides will not be advertised weekly, they are a weekly feature however please keep an eye on wheelers website and face book page for additional rides. Marcus smith is currently running the Monday prissick nights plus strength training on a Saturday morning. Also if anyone fancies organising a faster Saturday group then please organise it via the wheelers face book page and we can see how it goes.

Please enjoy your riding over the winter months and remember that mudguard season is now upon us!

Thanks. Dave Kirton.

Monday Night Training

Tonight (27th Oct) – Monday evening Autumn/Winter bicycle practice:

More pedaling economy, technique, balance on the bike and devilish sprints. If there’s strong cross winds, it’ll be a fantastically welcome extra challenge for tight formation riding.

Venue: Prissick cycle circuit, Marton Road, Middlesbrough
Dates: Mondays from October 6th
Times: 7.15 p.m. for a 7.30 start until 9.00 pm.
Cost: £3.00
Target group: Mixed sex, mixed ability, (complete novices welcome),

What to expect: Drills concentrating on tight formation riding, pace line etiquette, riding economy; Warm-up 10 laps to destruction; team time trial efforts; simulated points races; break bridging and the best event of the day – the devil.

Great turnout last week. Would be good to see double figures in the females…

CTC Membership & Insurance

For those of you still wondering about the best deal for 3rd party liability insurance whilst out riding, the CTC do a very good deal for club members. Their normal adult rate is over £40 but if you quote our club affiliation number you can get it for just £18. This will give you £10 million quid of liability cover, and they also offer a host of other insurance options for bikes & bike related travel. The relevant CTC web page is here.

If anyone is interested and would like the affiliation number just contact me here.

A Good Weekend

Its been a  good weekend of club runs this weekend. 16 or so for both days of the Very Steady group (with some people out both days), and 14 or so in both the Steady and Fast groups today. Good riding, well disciplined with little or no incident (one minor tangle in the Very Steadies today) and importantly no one being left behind to fend for themselves. In addition there was an excellent turn out for Marcus’s Strength Training Program in Saltburn.
Well done and a big thank you to all those ride leaders who turned up.
On another note, winter is most definitely coming, so it’s time for everyone to get mudguards fitted. In fact they’re a requirement if you’re coming on a club run in winter. Crud RoadRacer are my preferred guards, though some prefer SKS Raceblades. Others are also probably available. You pays your money and you takes your choice…
