CWCC Youth Sessions Restart

September 2020 – Update

Hello everyone,

I hope that everyone is safe and well and are enjoying their summer holidays as safely as possible.

I firstly would like to begin with an apology, as I was hoping to give you plenty of notice of our sessions restarting. I like to be well organised and less than a week isn’t ideal but it is what we have to deal with now. I was hopeful that I would have found out around mid-August as our application for our sessions went in at the start of August, but as you can imagine, they are very busy down at Everyone Active and they have only today provided me with the confirmation update that I was hoping to have had weeks ago.

Apart from a small update a few weeks ago, I last emailed you all at the beginning of July and said that we have been looking at the potential restart date of September 2020. I have been working very hard over the last couple of weeks with British Cycling (Cycling Governing Body) and Everyone Active (In charge of Facilities at Middlesbrough Sports Village (MSV)) regarding the potential reopening of the cycling facilities at MSV and the procedures that we all need to put in place in order to make this happen.

I CAN HAPPILY INFORM YOU ALL THAT MYSELF AND THE COACHING TEAM PLAN TO RESTART OUR SESSIONS ON – MONDAY 7th SEPTEMBER 2020, 1800-1900pm.

CWCC Youth Sessions & League 2000 Update

Message from Josef George, CWCC Youth Development Officer

Hello everyone,

Firstly, I would like to say, thank you for the responses from all the parents who got back to me regarding my previous email. I appreciate that you shared your opinion and thoughts on our sessions potentially restarting at Middlesbrough Sports Village (MSV). I’ve had lots of messages asking for an update so, hopefully, the information below will answer a lot of your questions.

Youth & Adult Training 10th Feb

Due to the poor weather conditions caused by storm Ciara, the coaching team have been closely monitoring the ever-changing weather conditions yesterday and today and unfortunately we have had to come to the decision to cancel tonight’s youth and adult training sessions.

In addition to this, the members of staff at Everyone Active, who maintain the facilities at Middlesbrough Sports Village, have informed me that due to the declining conditions with the wind, rain, potential sleet and sheer cold temperatures impending this evening, that it would be in everyone’s best interests to cancel tonight’s sessions.

They have been working this morning on removing a fallen tree branch (one of the bigger longer ones on the far side of the track) that had fallen on the track overnight and shattered. As a result of this and the looming conditions, the track is also littered with debris that they have tried to move, but the wind keeps blowing it back onto the circuit. There is also the possibility that some of the other trees have been weakened due to the storm, so for health and safety reasons we wouldn’t feel comfortable with running the session either.

Please help us spread the word.

We apologise that the sessions are off, but we will return with full strength next week!

Winter Training

The nights are closing in, it’s wet and cold! This can only mean one thing… yes you guessed it!

The winter adult training sessions are ready to start up 😂

Today is the first adult training at MSV.
19:30 – 21:00 £4 per rider.
Please arrive in time to sign on and complete a concent form. I’ll try to post a link to the form so you can print off etc

You don’t need to be a CW member to ride, just bring a bike, helmet and suitable clothing for the weather conditions.

The focus of these sessions is group riding, bike handling and fitness. Those who want to push a little (or a lot) harder will also be accommodated. So don’t be shy, give it a try.

As last year we are also allowing youth riders to take part. Most have been approached, but if any younger rider is interested please get in touch.

Hope to see you on the track 🚴🏻‍♂️💨

First Aid Course

The club is holding a Red Cross First Aid Course on Saturday 4 May. It will run from 9 till 5 and will take place in the Nunthorpe Methodist Church Hall.

The course is at an appropriate level for British Cycling coaches. If ride leaders need to refresh their qualification or gain this important qualification please contact Mike Cole.

There are a few places left. It will be free to club members!
