CWCC 25 mile TT- 7 June 15

31 riders, from an entry of 37, rode the club’s 25 on the Swainby – Pinchinthorpe – Swainby course.

The event was won by former club member, Chris Smart, who now resides in Glasgow but was in the area for a family wedding. His time of 55.22 was 21 seconds faster than Paul Thirling in second place. Paul Fountain won the handicap section and National Junior Ladies Cyclo-Cross champion, Amira Mellor, was the fastest lady.

Special mention goes to Toby Tanfield, who was first away from timekeeper Sherry Binks, as he had to be at Middlesbrough Cycling Circuit by 9.30 for a Regional School of Racing being held by BC.

Thanks to all the marshals and timekeepers Sherry Binks and Bill Millen.

Steve Binks.

Harrogate to Harrogate Tour de France Etap ride. Sat 13th June

Hi Wheelers. Thanks to all who came out Sunday for the Cycling weekly visit. I’m sure you will agree it was a good day and we put on a good display. It also doubled up well for the “as many wheelers as we can” ride that we cancelled earlier this year. There must have been approaching 100 riders in Ayton car park? Not sure when the article will be in the comic, the photographer said possible end of June but looking at previous issues with other clubs it seems to be about 2 months afterwards.

Moving swiftly on to the next big outing now that the media circus is over, its less than 2 weeks till the 2nd running of the Harrogate to Harrogate Etap ride on Saturday 13th June departing Harrogate fire station at 09.30. This route roughly follows stage one of last year’s Tour de France stage one. It was a great day out last year and we will use it again as an opportunity to raise some money towards club member Keith Alderson’s granddaughters charity for nuroblastoma the Gabriel Alderson appeal. I don’t want to turn it in to a big charity ride but if we can have a collection at the start of some off the money that would normally be spent riding a sportive then that would be much appreciated.

The main TDF ride is 122miles, and a very nice ride it is. There will be a steady group looked after by Darren Thompson and his helpers Mark Rigby and Neil Dawson, and a medium group lead by myself and James Meadows, if a faster group also wishes to cain it around then that’s also fine. However this year we are also providing a very nice 35 mile scenic route riding over to Brimham Rocks for anyone who wishes to come but doesn’t fancy the 122 miles.

Finally, and most important is a few of us are already booked in to Harrogate travel lodge on the Saturday night for a night out following the ride. This is the reason I moved the ride from Sunday to Saturday. 122 miles and 3 pints afterwards should make for a great day. Anyone who fancies the night out just let me know. Also if you’re interested in doing the shorter ride please let me know so I have an idea of numbers.

Please look at the top bar of the website under the tab, rides, social rides, then etap for full details of the event and routes to save me having to repeat all the details.

Thanks, and hopefully see many of you there.

Thanks, Dave k

Tuesday night club run 2nd June. 6pm. Ayton.

Hi all. Tuesday night club run meeting as usual Ayton tourist info car park at 6pm for 6.10 set off. All welcome. The wind is looking pretty bad tomorrow, dropping from 26mph to 22mph at 6pm. So I think it’s going to be a turn up and see night. Probably do Easby loops or head for the shelter of clay bank. Or how about Gribdale repeats? See you all there. Dave k
