Middlesbrough Velodrome – Saturday 24 May 2025

Weโ€™re very excited to be partnering with North East Cycling Academy for this Saturdayโ€™s (24th May 2025) Relaunch Event at Middlesbrough Velodrome!

Join us for a packed day of cycling fun, community spirit, and the official launch of our brand new cycling hub. Whether youโ€™re a seasoned rider or just curious to give it a go, thereโ€™s something for everyone โ€” and donโ€™t worry if you donโ€™t have a bike, weโ€™ve got bikes and helmets available to use all day long (so no excuses!).

There are lots of disciplines of cycling being covered, so if you can, bring your own bike that suits you or as above use one of ours! We have skills, group riding, cyclo cross and track riding all available!

Check out the attached posters for a full schedule and event information to see how you can get involved โ€” weโ€™d love to see families, local riders, and supporters of all ages joining us to celebrate.

Weโ€™re also looking forward to welcoming our amazing partners who have helped make this day possible.

Come along, support a fantastic community-led event, and help us kick-start a new chapter for cycling in the region.

See you all Saturday!

If you have any further comments, questions or queries on anything at all, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Myself and the coaching team look forward to seeing you at a future Cleveland Wheelers Youth Session!

Thanks & regards,

Josef George

Daniel Thompson

It is a great honour and privilege to announce that one of our youth/junior riders, who has progressed through our ranks, has now been selected for the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT) World Class Programme (WCP) as part of the Men’s Endurance Olympic Development Squad (ODS)! ๐Ÿšด๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ™Œ

Congratulations to Daniel Thompson ! ๐Ÿ‘

Fresh from his first senior national track championships at the weekend, comes this unbelievable news. Daniel mixed it up with the big boys at the weekend and although there are no results to write home about, it was an exceptional performance and it was the way that he held himself and went about his business – leaving it all on the track ๐Ÿ’ช

From rubbing shoulders with Olympians, European and World championship riders and medallists amongst others, well done Daniel! You have done yourself, your family and friends and your club proud! ๐Ÿค

CWCC Youth Sessions & League 2000 Update

Message from Josef George, CWCC Youth Development Officer

Hello everyone,

Firstly, I would like to say, thank you for the responses from all the parents who got back to me regarding my previous email. I appreciate that you shared your opinion and thoughts on our sessions potentially restarting at Middlesbrough Sports Village (MSV). I’ve had lots of messages asking for an update so, hopefully, the information below will answer a lot of your questions.

Track World Cup

Many congratulations to Charlie and Harry Tanfield on their performances at the Track World Cup held this weekend at Minsk in Belarus.

On Saturday, Charlie outclassed the opposition in the 4 km Individual Pursuit to win the gold medal in a time of 4 mins 12.253 secs. To put this time in context it’s less than two seconds outside Jack Bobridge’s world record and the only Brit to have gone faster is Chris Boardman.

On Sunday Charlie was joined by brother Harry, Dan Bigham and Jonny Wale riding as Team KGF in the Team Pursuit where they came away with the gold medal beating a Russian trade team in the final.

There’s more reporting on the British Cycling Website here and here.

What next for the Tanfields?
