Freewheeling Contest, 1973

The club received the following email from former (and now once again current) member of the club, Andy Allen, who enclosed a photo from the early 70s, taken at the annual freewheeling event, one of the novelty events that still survives to this day, and on the same course. The photo was taken at the top of the hill in Ingleby. It’s a great piece of history.

Hello Dave,

I’ve rejoined the club tonight after first joining over 40 years ago! Thought I’d drop you a photo of one of my first club rides ( freewheeling contest) in 1973…

In the picture is: Eddie Granger, me, Nic?, Frank Bradley, Don Urwin, Jean Nicholson, Steve Binks, Jim Nicholson, Mike Binks, Ray Burnett, Dicky Bowes, and Geoff Reynolds.

I get back to Teesside more frequently now so hope to get out on the odd club run. Bumped into the club a couple of weeks ago on the Pickering road, was good to see the club.
