CWCC Freewheeling

3 November 2024

The club held its annual Freewheeling competition on Stone Stoup Hill, Ingleby Greenhow on Sunday, 3 November.

It was a fine day and there was a good turnout with over 30 riders taking part.

The winner was Marcus Smith. The top seven riders got over the crest of the first rise (probably the most for many years), but no one got all the way to Battersby not even Marcus with his eBike!

The top riders were :-

  1. Marcus Smith
  2. Harry Tanfield
  3. Eoin Carroll
  4. Gary Batty
  5. Tom Levell
  6. Dan Waring
  7. Martin Bell
  8. Toby Tanfield
  9. Andy Curson
  10. Mark Hansom
  11. Marjolein Van’t Geloof (Marjo) – first lady

The first three are in the photo below. A nonchalant Marcus flanked by Eoin (L) and Harry (R).

The full complement of riders are shown below :-

Many thanks to Brian Gleeson and Tom Levell for the photos.

David Appleyard also took some photos at the event and these have been posted on Facebook in the Cleveland Wheelers Members Group page. Thanks David.

Freewheeling Competition – 3 November

The annual CWCC Freewheeling Competition was held this morning on Stone Stoup Hill outside Ingleby Greenhow. There was a reasonable turnout despite a soggy start to the day.

The bookies’ favourites – Harry and Charlie Tanfield didn’t disappoint finishing first and second respectively. However, third place went to a dark horse, Neil Proctor, who seemed to still have plenty of momentum left when the put his feet on the ground a tad too early!

The recording of the positions was a bit hit and miss but I think the next few riders were Paul Sanderson,  Andy Curson, Tom Levell, Marcus Smith, Dan Waring, Andrew Kneeshaw…..

There were a couple of photographers there – Marcus and Richard Carter so expect some snaps on social media.

Freewheeling Competition – change to start time.

The start time has been put back an hour to 12:00 to allow riders time to do the club run (or part of) and then get back for the Freewheeling.

CWCC Team Time Trial

Here are the results of the mixed ability Team Time Trial. A close run affair with only a couple of minutes separating all of the teams.

Well done to everyone who took part, and to Rob Maude for having the idea and for organizing it.
