Cleveland Wheelers Race Team ‘Away Weekend’ to Scarborough

17th & 18th January, 2015

Everyone congregated at 10:30am Saturday morning for the long awaited CW’s race team ‘away weekend’!

The two groups set off – the steady group taking the more direct, but extremely hilly route over the moors, and the faster group intending to head out towards Osmotherley & Hornby before picking up the main Scarborough road at Helmsley.
Due to road conditions, the fast group had a change of plan, deciding it would be safer to take the lower option – circling around to Northallerton, Thirsk and up over Sutton Bank. Adding the extra mileage put doubt in people’s minds…none more so than Martin Brearey – who then came up with a whole host of excuses for additional ‘stop’s’ – 3 x glove drops, 1 x puncture, 1 x grease on rim. Never the less the group worked well, passing Helmsley, Kirbymoorside and onto Thornton-le-Dale for a well deserved coffee stop, where the steady and fast groups converged.

Charity Bonanza, Sunday 7th December

It looks like we have a busy charity weekend coming up. Our main priority is to support club member Keith Alderson with his roller racing event to raise money for his granddaughter Gabriel on Sunday 7th at 3pm at New Marske sports centre. Simon Coates has been busy helping Keith to organise the event and has pulled together a fantastic list of prizes, it will be good fun for a good cause. £10 entry on the day to take part in the roller racing. Please bring friends and family plus your own bike.
Stockton wheelers also have a charity ride on the same day in support of their rider Andrew Blanch who sustained serious injuries in an accident last week. In the interest of supporting this and inter club relations we have decided to take the entire club run over there to take part. It’s just a steady 30 mile social ride starting from the Myton Pub in Ingleby Barwick at 09.30
So the Plan for the weekend is this!
Saturday 10am. Additional club run regular group meeting Ayton, ride leader Vince Kelly.
Saturday 10.30am. Steady steady group as normal. Ride leader Julie McNicholas.
Sunday. 08.50 Meet at Marton shops to ride over to the Myton at Ingleby Barwick via ladagate lane and the post house, or meet us on route or at the Myton before 09.30. Please wear wheelers kit if possible so we can put on a good show. I know this isn’t always practical in the winter. Anyone wishing to do a normal club run just meet at Ayton for 10am and sort yourselves out.
Main event! Sunday 3pm. Roller racing charity event. New Marske Sports and Social club, Gurney street, New Marske, TS118EG. Please be there before 3pm complete with bike and £10 if you wish to take part.
See you all at the weekend.

P.S. Anyone doing the Stockton charity ride and our roller racing event will be entered into a special raffle to win the Fibre Lyte carbon fibre clock!

P.P.S. Don’t forget we’re looking for volunteers to help out with the event (signing on, helping to steady the bikes, serving refreshments, etc.). You should still be able to take part too. If you can help out contact Simon Coates, Keith Alderson or any committee member.
