Paul Christon has recently added an article to his list of local hill climbs. This is entitled “The 53rd Climb” and can be found by clicking this link. It covers the climb to Bilsdale Transmitter in some detail.

It’s the return leg of our annual TT match against Stockton Wheelers this Thursday. We’re in the rare (for recently) position of being ahead from the first leg, so let’s try and keep it that way! It would be great if as many “big hitters” as possible showed up at Stockton’s course. Sign on is from 18:15 on Mill Lane where there is also ample parking. First off is at 19:00 from a point just beyond where Mill Lane emerges onto the main road, both marked on the map below (click to enlarge).
It’s a proper 10-mile course, but a fairly fast one. Course details are here.
See you all there!
Revolve 24 At Brands Hatch
Anyone looking for something a little different might be interested in the Revolve24 to be held at Brands Hatch on 19/20 September this year. It’s basically a 24-hour relay race though it is open to soloists if you think you have it in you. 24-hour events are quite common in mountain biking, here’s a chance to do one on your road bike. Entry is discounted by 15% for BC members up until 12th July. You can ride it just for the fun/thrill of it, or you can ride it for charity, it’s up to you.
If you and your mates fancy this then give it a bash. An electronic flyer is available here.
Club Rider Support
At the AGM last September the committee was tasked to find a way to spend some of its income on support of riders engaging in racing on behalf of CWCC, be that at youth or senior level, road racing or TT. It has been a long process, but the criteria for support and the mechanism to provide it has been agreed and implemented and those parties concerned have been informed of the arrangements.
Summer is here and Cleveland Wheelers is pleased to announce its Summer Cycling photo competition. From now until the end of August submit any photos that you feel fulfill the criteria laid out below and of which you are proud. Every photo submitted will be placed into the gallery and the organising committee will shortlist what it feels are the best ones. At the close of entries the shortlist will be published as a gallery and the members will then vote for their favourite photo. The winner will receive a 60x40cm canvas print of their winning photo (or 60×30 in case of widescreen format photo).
The criteria for the photos are
- You MUST be a Wheelers member.
- It must be YOUR photo.
- It must have a bike in it.
- It should preferably be taken between now and close of the competition.
- It should preferably have people in Wheelers kit in it (preference will be given to such photos).
- It should show the joy of cycling.
- It should show the joy of being a Wheeler.
- It should show the joy of having such a wonderful area to cycle right on our doorstep.
- The judging committee and members votes are final, no discussion will be entered into.
Email your entries in the fullest resolution available, along with some details about the photo (who, when, where) to secretary@clevelandwheelers.com. Closing date for entries is 31 August 2015
