Hi wheelers. It’s the rough stuff challenge ride this Saturday 22nd August. I nearly forgot about it! These dates come around so quick! Fortunately Shaun Joughin is available to lead this one. He also has a new route planned, 23 miles starting and finishing at fletchers farm at 10am, not to technical. Please ignore any reference on the website to it starting at the Duddly arms at 09.30. The link to the new route is shown below. Usual challenge ride / tourist trial conditions apply. £1 entry, extra tourist trial points for full mudguards and a proper saddle bag. 3hr time cut off. Hopefully Brian Bevis will be out to officiate the event as usual and make sure no one is trying to claim mudguard or saddle bag points without the appropriate equipmemt,

Starting and Ending at Fletchers taking in Little Ayton, Easby, Ingleby Greenhow, The Incline, Baysdale, Kildale and back to Little Ayton

Hi all. Tuesday night club run meeting as usual, Ayton tourist info car park at 6pm for 6.10 set off. All welcome. Back to something more regular this week after last weeks team time trials. Seen as the connecting road between the bottom of clay bank long side and steep side has been repaired then you can all do anti clockwise loops around there. Head out Easby, Ingleby, head up towards the Steep side of clay, then turn right on to the connecting road with no name! Steady loops up clay, descend steep side with caution, then cut back along the farm track and repeat. Nice and steady, go for as many laps as you can rather than blasting off on the first ascent! Regroup at the top of clay and head to the Buck when complete. I’m not out this week so drill Sargent Shaun O’Shea will be dealing with you all this week. Have a nice ride. Cheers, Dave k

But the activity involves anticlockwise loops of easby in small ability groups and each group will have a task! It’s Rob maudes idea not mine! Any newcomers and steady riders please come along as there will be a several ability groups. Something for everyone. Regrouping for ride back to the buck for about 7.30ish. See you all there.

So think we will do a nice little club run route. Out to easby, Ingleby, Broughton, clay bank long side, left back to Ingleby, battersby, kildale station, gribdale, regroup back at the Buck. See who turns up for the groups. I will lead a steady group if needed. Also option for fast chain gang group if anyone would like to do that. See you all there.

Another great Cleveland wheelers challenge ride day out today tackling the mountain ride. 30 riders rolling out of Ayton this morning in the rain. The ride quickly split in to ability groups once over kildale. Also a few incidents on the treacherous Haygate bank descent in to Rosedale today with Rob Maude in the group I was in hitting the deck on the steep right hander and sustaining a nasty cut to his arm. Then guest rider Tony Gilby coming unstuck on the same bend and possibly braking a collar bone. Thanks to the parents of young Ryan Nesbit who were following in a car for taking Tony to hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he hasn’t been put off Cleveland wheelers rides.
First back to fletchers farm from the extended route (not that it’s a race) was Col Jemson, pursued by Paul Leonard and Glen McCuscar who notably rides from Rosedale and back where he lives to take part in these rides.
Please note that for added value for your pound next year we are going to stick in the Newley resurfaced gribdale to Kildale road in to the start and possibly finish of the course. This won’t increase the mileage but will significantly increase the climbing.
