Hi wheelers. Next Sunday 14th sees the 3rd running of our revitalised 150 in 12 event. This has proved a very successful day out since we relaunched the event after hearing stories of old from Cleveland wheelers legend Terry Lunn. 

Anyhow the challenge ride will be departing Ayton tourist info car park at 08:00 Sunday 14th after sign on. Usual challenge ride rules apply, it’s up to those taking part to be able to navigate and be self supported during the ride, finishing back at the tannery Ayton within 12hrs. Having said all that I would forecast that we will probably have 2 groups, steady and fastish.  

Anyone not wishing to take part, please meet up at 09:00 for your usual club run groups, or starting with us at 08:00 and riding part way is an option.   Please see the link below for further details and route.

150 Mile Challenge

To coincide with the National Championships at Saltburn Saltburn Arts Festival presents Chasing The Sun. The film will be shown at Saltburn Arts Theatre on Albion Terrace at 2.30pm on Sunday 23 June.

Hi Wheelers. It’s the 100 in 8 challenge ride this Sunday 16th June. Sign on at Ayton high green car park ready for a 9am roll out. I have taken on board a few grumblings regarding what was the main road route back from Bedale and Northallerton over to Osmotherly, and amended this part of the route.  From Bedale we follow what I call the “Bernie Powell tandem cafe route” and head back via Kirkby Fleetham and Danby whisk, finishing at the Tannery Ayton. Please familiarise yourself with the route as navigating your way is part of the challenge.  Stoping at the Tandem cafe Bedale is an option but please be mindful of the time as you have maximum 8 hrs to complete. The co-op and a meal deal at Masham is a much quicker option.  The challenge rides arnt generally lead rides, however I anticipate 2 or 3 groups forming, steady, medium and fast. This is a great ride for anyone attempting their first 100 miler. It’s long but not a ridiculously difficult route.

Hi wheelers, it’s the next of our challenge ride series this Sunday, and the tough one! The Paul Christon Mountain challenge. Departing from Ayton high green car park 09:30 with 3 routes to choose from, standard, plus and killer!  Please arrive in good time to sign on ready for the 09:30 roll out straight up Gribdale as a leg loosener. Finishing at Fletchers farm cafe with a cut off time of 5hrs 30 mins. Please arrive well prepared and familiar with the route as this is not a lead ride. however ability groups will no doubt form very quickly. Tourists trial points available regardless of route choice. 1 point for completing the route within the cut off time, one point for fully fitted mudguards, and one point for a proper saddle bag or bar bag that is able to contain a small flask and a sandwich. Mountain Challenge

Hi wheelers, it’s the start of challenge ride season again. The first up is the Northallerton 50/4, this Sunday 17th March, departing 09.30 from Ayton high green car park. 4 hrs to complete the route, finishing at the Stokesley sign, with John kelly signing you off, either in the town square next to the toilets and the flower pots, or in his car outside the town hall, depending on the weather. Usual challenge ride rules apply, please depart in ability order from Ayton, fastest riders first, and please keep things tidy heading out through Stokesley high street and Hutton rudby bank! remember it’s not a race! 

The challenge rides are not lead rides and it’s up to the participants to navigate the route arriving back within 4 hrs. Having said that it’s the trend these days for groups to form before departure. I’m happy to lead a medium paced group, as long as I can manage to not fall off again on Skutterskelfe bend.
