Those of you who don’t do Facebook may not know that Paul Christon along with Dave Kirton are attempting the Coast to Coast Ride this Wednesday, 17 July.
Paul is fundraising for Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind and his reasons for doing so are described on his JustGiving page. Please take the time to read his story and donate.

Before I give a bit of an update I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone for their kind comments and donations that you’ve given, it really has been quite overwhelming, in a good way.
The weather is looking good for Wednesday, so that is the day that we are going to go for. I say ‘we’ because my good friend, Dave Kirton, is now joining me for the whole ride.
Dave did the same ride with me 10 years ago also to support Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, that was a time before people used to do the Coast to Coast in a day!
It will be great to have Dave’s easy company and support on the day. Here’s the link to an account of our original ride. What I learnt from that day more than anything else was how to enjoy your food while on a long bike ride, Dave, as you will read in the article got that right whereas I got it badly wrong with my restricted banana based diet!
Thanks in advance to Ian Jones and Luisa Dowson who will be helping us out on the day by providing the critical water and food replenishments at Alston and Staindrop.
I’ll be providing updates throughout the day about our progress and will make sure that the Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind Facebook page is tagged too. We’ll be aiming to leave Whitehaven around 8.30 am and hope to arrive in Saltburn at the foot of the bank between 6 and 6.30pm to give us plenty of time to get a bag of chips (with scraps) before the chip shop shuts at 7pm!
