Harrogate to Harrogate Tour de France Etap ride. Sat 13th June

Hi Wheelers. Thanks to all who came out Sunday for the Cycling weekly visit. I’m sure you will agree it was a good day and we put on a good display. It also doubled up well for the “as many wheelers as we can” ride that we cancelled earlier this year. There must have been approaching 100 riders in Ayton car park? Not sure when the article will be in the comic, the photographer said possible end of June but looking at previous issues with other clubs it seems to be about 2 months afterwards.

Moving swiftly on to the next big outing now that the media circus is over, its less than 2 weeks till the 2nd running of the Harrogate to Harrogate Etap ride on Saturday 13th June departing Harrogate fire station at 09.30. This route roughly follows stage one of last year’s Tour de France stage one. It was a great day out last year and we will use it again as an opportunity to raise some money towards club member Keith Alderson’s granddaughters charity for nuroblastoma the Gabriel Alderson appeal. I don’t want to turn it in to a big charity ride but if we can have a collection at the start of some off the money that would normally be spent riding a sportive then that would be much appreciated.

The main TDF ride is 122miles, and a very nice ride it is. There will be a steady group looked after by Darren Thompson and his helpers Mark Rigby and Neil Dawson, and a medium group lead by myself and James Meadows, if a faster group also wishes to cain it around then that’s also fine. However this year we are also providing a very nice 35 mile scenic route riding over to Brimham Rocks for anyone who wishes to come but doesn’t fancy the 122 miles.

Finally, and most important is a few of us are already booked in to Harrogate travel lodge on the Saturday night for a night out following the ride. This is the reason I moved the ride from Sunday to Saturday. 122 miles and 3 pints afterwards should make for a great day. Anyone who fancies the night out just let me know. Also if you’re interested in doing the shorter ride please let me know so I have an idea of numbers.

Please look at the top bar of the website under the tab, rides, social rides, then etap for full details of the event and routes to save me having to repeat all the details.

Thanks, and hopefully see many of you there.

Thanks, Dave k

Tuesday night club run 2nd June. 6pm. Ayton.

Hi all. Tuesday night club run meeting as usual Ayton tourist info car park at 6pm for 6.10 set off. All welcome. The wind is looking pretty bad tomorrow, dropping from 26mph to 22mph at 6pm. So I think it’s going to be a turn up and see night. Probably do Easby loops or head for the shelter of clay bank. Or how about Gribdale repeats? See you all there. Dave k

Tuesday night club run. 6pm. Great Ayton

Hi wheelers. Tuesday night mixed club run on as normal, meeting at Ayton tourist info car park at 6pm for 6.10 set off, all welcome. Weathers looking like possible heavy showers. So for this week we will stick to the shelter of the hills with some 3 sides of clay bank repeats. Ride out steady in ability groups to Easby, Ingleby, towards Broughton then left and head up the steep side of clay bank. Descend left down towards Chop Gate, turn around with caution! at farm entrance on right a few hundred meters past the bottom, then climb back up and descend long side towards broughton. Turn around with caution at the white gate farm track entrance on the right. Climb the long side, then repeat as many times as you wish? Or spectate at the top. Will regroup and head back about 7.15-7.30ish. See you all there.

Cheers, Dave

Tuesday night club run, 12th May

Hi all. Tuesday night club run meeting as usual Ayton tourist info car park at 6pm for 6.10 set off. All welcome. The weather dosnt look to bad although it’s meant to be very windy. Also I think riders have all had enough of hills over the weekend so for this week we will stick to clockwise Easby loops. 3 ability groups with one of the groups heading off to do a fast chain gang around the lanes if anyone wishes. Regroup back at the buck at 7.30 if you wish. Have a good ride. See you all there. Dave k

Weekend ride plans, 9th, 10th May.

Hi wheelers. Just bringing you all up to date with the ride plans for this weekend. It’s Paul Christon’s chimney challenge no 1 ride on Sunday. This is aimed at anyone who has never attempted, or attempted and failed the Rosedale chimney climb. Departing Ayton tourist info car park at 10am we will amble over there the easiest way possible. Then the established chimney climbers will spectate as the attempties try and claw and grapple their way up. Should be fun.
We will probably merge the steady and medium group this Sunday. However if any riders wish to do their regular steady, medium or fast ride then that’s fine. We can sort it all out in the car park.
The Saturday steady Eddies group will be on as normal at usual time of 10.30. Lead by Richard Carter this week as Julie Mcnicolas is resting up for her chimney attempt Sunday.
Also good luck to all the wheelers riding the Fred Witton this Sunday.

Thanks, Dave k
