Bryan Bevis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed Club President, Bryan Bevis, who left us last week.

Bryan’s dedication to Cleveland Wheelers Cycling Club was truly immeasurable, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone whose lives he touched.

Bryan devoted many years to the club, serving first, as general secretary, and more recently as president, with unwavering commitment and enthusiasm. His wisdom, kindness, and infectious passion for cycling inspired generations of riders and volunteers alike. Bryan was not only a tireless advocate for every aspect of cycling, but also a cherished friend and mentor—always ready with a word of encouragement or a helping hand, be it about cycling, or hints and tips about gardening or making wine!

Bryan’s remarkable contributions include:

• Championing Youth Development: Bryan actively encouraged new riders to join the club, welcoming countless members—past and present—into the Cleveland Wheelers family.

• Organising Club Events: From quiz nights and dinner dances to bring-and-buy sales, Bryan’s efforts brought members and the wider cycling community together, creating lasting memories and friendships.

• Supporting Fellow Riders and Fostering Inclusivity: Bryan was instrumental in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment. He was always ready with a story, an anecdote, or his favourite phrase: “It’s just a bit of fun.”

• Representing the Club: Bryan’s have-a-go attitude shone through at local and national cycling events, where his enthusiasm and good humour uplifted everyone around him. From tandem touring to roller racing, track riding to hill climbs, Bryan was rarely seen without some sort of cycling attire and had a bike for every occasion.

• Preserving Club History: With an encyclopaedic knowledge of cycling lore, Bryan meticulously recorded club gatherings and events—preserving our shared history for future generations, long before the digital age.

Bryan’s legacy is woven into the very fabric of Cleveland Wheelers. His influence has shaped our club and community, and he was respected throughout the cycling world for his integrity, warmth, and tireless service.

On behalf of the committee and all our members, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Bryan’s family and friends. We will share details of arrangements and opportunities to celebrate Bryan’s life in due course.

Bryan’s memory will continue to inspire us all. We will honour his legacy by upholding the values he championed and by carrying forward the spirit of camaraderie and enthusiasm that he embodied.

Rest in peace, Bryan. You will be greatly missed.
